If you look after your conifers (soil, water, fertiliser etc.) you will rarely have a problem.

Remember, some conifers will take on a different appearance (shape or height) to that shown on the label or seen in a book. This is due to geographical and climatic differences of our vast country.

If your plant becomes a little ragged or lopsided it can be easily trimmed or pruned to create a more appealing shape or size. Apart from large scale hedging, which is usually done by mechanical means, if you trim through the protruding bough or twig of the plant you are trying to shape, and not through the leaf proper, you will not end up with brown or rusty cut marks on your tree or shrub. All large cuts should be sealed with a proper tree wounding compound to stop the risk of secondary infection.
